- Did you have hip replacement surgery?
- Have you experienced hip pain or audible noises from your hip, including grinding, popping, clicking, or squeaking?
- Did your hip replacement fail, requiring revision surgery?
- You may be entitled to compensation.
Many patients implanted with the Pinnacle® Acetabular Cup System, manufactured by DePuy Synthes Sales and Johnson & Johnson, have suffered premature failure of the device due to polyethylene liner dissociation or disassociation. Failure of the system’s liner locking mechanism can result in shearing of the anti-rotational tabs, toxic metal poisoning, and the need for painful revision surgery. If you were affected, you may be entitled to significant compensation.
Do you recognize these symptoms?
There are common warning signs that your hip implant may be failing. If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms with or without a fall or injury, your device may be failing.
- Grinding, Popping or Squeaking Sounds
- Feeling Like Your Hip is Giving Out
- High Levels of Metals in Blood, such as Cobalt or Chrome
- Sudden or Worsening Pain in Your Hip, Groin, Thigh or Buttocks
- Difficulty Walking
- Recommended for Hip Replacement Surgery
What went wrong?
Defects in the Pinnacle® Acetabular Cup System’s design have been investigated by researchers. There is evidence that:
- The weak locking mechanism is prone to dissociation or disassociation of the poly liner
- The poor liner design increases the risk of impingement and catastrophic disassociation
- Inadequate safety testing through the FDA’s 501(k) “fast track” loophole
- When the liner fails, metal shards from component grinding can leach into surrounding tissue and potentially cause metallosis, tissue death, and bone loss
Despite knowing of the harm the device can cause, DePuy/J&J marketed it to physicians and patients as safe and effective without warning of these risks.
