On September 26, 2017, Pendley, Baudin & Coffin, L.L.P. filed the first pending federal lawsuit in Baton Rouge, Louisiana concerning a failure of a DePuy Attune knee implant. The plaintiff underwent a subsequent surgery to remove and replace the defective Attune device.

FDA Recalls Zimmer Biomet Shoulder Replacements

The FDA has recalled all Zimmer Biomet Comprehensive Reverse Shoulder replacement devices because of increasingly dangerous fracture rates. The FDA issued a Class I recall, saying that the Zimmer Biomet shoulder devices are fracturing at a higher rate than claimed by the manufacturer. The fracture rate raises the risk of serious injuries for patients who were implanted with the shoulder replacement device.

Stryker Settlement Agreement Announced for $1 Billion for Hip Implant Claimants

 

On November 3, 2014 a Settlement Agreement between Howmedica Osteonics Corporation, known as Stryker Orthopaedics and the Court-appointed Plaintiffs' Settlement Committee (court appointed attorneys representing plaintiffs in New Jersey and Federal District Multidistrict litigations) was announced. This agreement will compensate eligible U.S. claimants who have suffered recognizable bodily, physical or personal injuries from surgery to replace their Rejuvenate Hip Stem and ABG II Modular Hip Stem Implant prior to November 3, 2014.

2.5 Billion DePuy Hip Implant Settlement Announced in Accord that May Be Worth More Than $4 Billion

 

On November 19, Johnson and Johnson announced a settlement of $2.5 billion to resolve the thousands of lawsuits over its recalled hip implants in an accord that may be worth more than $4 billion.  There are about 12,000 suits filed in federal and state courts which face Johnson and Johnson and its unit DePuy.
