Lumber Liquidators Selling Chinese Laminate Flooring with Toxic Levels of Formaldehyde

On March 1st "60 Minutes" aired a report on Lumber Liquidators seeming to intentionally mislabel Chinese made laminate flooring that is sells.  It seems this Chinese made flooring contains levels of formaldehyde higher than those allowed by California law.  "60 Minutes" visited factories in China that make the laminate flooring for Lumber Liquidators. They have been labeling the flooring "CARB 2" (meaning it complies with the standards set by California; later this year the standards set in California will take effect nationwide), factory managers admitted that the flooring labeled "CARB 2" actually was not. Some of the flooring tested to be 7 to 20 times higher in formaldehyde than California standards allowed.  It is estimated that hundreds of thousands of homes in the United States are affected.  See the "60 Minutes" report by clicking here.

A known carcinogen, formaldehyde at high levels can cause myeloid leukemia and nasopharyngeal cancer.  At lower levels it can cause respiratory issues, eye, and nose and throat irritation including:

  • Wheezing and coughing
  • Chest tightness
  • Headaches
  • Depression
  • Insomnia
  • Impaired dexterity, memory, and equilibrium
  • Asthma
  • Allergic dermatitis

Exposure to toxic levels of formaldehyde is especially devastating for young children.

A lawsuit has been filed against Lumber Liquidators demanding that the company pay to remove and replace every single board.  Pendley, Baudin and Coffin, L.L.P. has extensive experience with Chinese drywall litigation, a similar case, and other construction defect cases.  Pendley, Baudin and Coffin, L.L.P. is currently accepting cases.  If you, a relative or someone you know bought laminate flooring made in China from Lumber Liquidators and have suffered any of the above medical problems leading to medical treatment, contact our highly experienced lawyers by filling out the contact form below or calling us toll free at: 1-888-725-2477.
