Long-term use of the drug Fosamax, a Bisphosphonate, may increase the risk of low-energy bone fractures, involving the thigh bone or femur. The FDA announced a possible link between saline and silicone gel-filled breast implants and a rare type of cancer known as anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL). Due to a high rate of revision surgeries to correct or remove defective implants, DePuy Orthopedics has recalled its ASR XL acetabular hip replacement and resurfacing system. These revision surgeries are painful and expensive and recovery often takes as long as the initial hip surgery.
