These cases arise from the contamination of the long grain rice crops in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas and Missouri by a genetically modified rice (GMO) that had not been approved for human consumption. This is litigation against the maker of Zurn Pex, Uponor, RTI, Kitec and Marshall Brass plumbing systems. Zurn’s fittings are identified by a Q Pex or a QPex stamped on their side. A Food and Drug Administration advisory committee on July 20, 2010 recommended that the approval of the drug Avastin used for the treatment of metastatic breast cancer be withdrawn. They concluded that new trials showed no apparent benefit from the drug.
