Accutane Litigation

August 18th, 2010

Pendley, Baudin & Coffin, L.L.P. is currently evaluating Accutane cases for individuals who have experienced serious adverse side effects including Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), Crohn’s Disease, and Ulcerative Colitis.

WHAT IS ACCUTANE? Accutane, the brand name for the drug Isotretinoin (generic), is a medication which was approved by the FDA in 1982 and has been used for the treatment of severe acne.   Accutane was originally developed and produced by Hoffman- La Roche and is now produced under many names including Claravis, Clarus, Sotret, Isotek, Amnesteem, and Decutan.

ACCUTANE SIDE EFFECTS Studies have shown that Accutane can cause severe side effects.  Pendley, Baudin & Coffin, L.L.P. is currently reviewing potential cases in which users have been diagnosed with the following conditions within three years of using Accutane:

  • Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) IBD is a condition which refers to two chronic diseases that cause inflammation of the intestines: ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease.   The most common symptoms of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are diarrhea and abdominal pain.   Additionally, those with IBD may also suffer from constipation.
  • Crohn’s Disease Crohn’s disease is among the very worst of the side effects caused by Accutane.   Crohn’s disease is an autoimmune disorder that inflames parts of a patient’s digestive system with severe pain and diarrhea.   The symptoms do subside after time but almost always flare up again.
  • Ulcerative Colitis Ulcerative Colitis is a condition which can be fatal in some cases and is signified by chronic pain and inflammation of the colon.

ACCUTANE PULLED FROM THE U.S. MARKET Accutane was recalled by Roche on June 26, 2009  and pulled from the U.S.  market.  Experts have opined that there is a link between Accutane use and Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), Crohn’s Disease, Ulcerative Colitis and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).  It is estimated that approximately 15 million people have taken Accutane since its introduction in 1982.

If you or a loved one have taken Accutane and have experienced the side effects mentioned above, please click here to contact us and have your potential case confidentially evaluated.
